Job Title: Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist
Reports to: Corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety Director
Job Summary
The EHS Specialist is responsible for contributing to the development, implementation, and maintenance of a variety of environmental, health, and safety plans and programs to ensure the highest degree of EHS compliance for Volm employees, customers, vendors, and key stakeholders. The Specialist is a critical strategic partner in preventing and eliminating worksite injuries by inspecting and evaluating worksites, working methods, equipment, materials, and processes. The Specialist plays a key role in recommending and guiding implementation of safety changes, training, and education. Teamwork and customer service are vital to the position as the Specialist works directly and indirectly with customers, vendors, team members, and leadership stakeholders.

Essential Duties
*Thoroughly understand and ensure that federal, state, and local laws, regulations, rules, and codes are observed, complied with, and administered by applicable company personnel.
*Provide advice, counseling, and technical support for all compliance regulations and updates.
*Contribute to the development, implementation, maintenance, and updates of EHS procedures, programs, and site-specific procedures required by law in areas such as hazard assessment, personal protective equipment, waste management, lockout/tagout, emergency action, hazard communication, and other relevant safety areas.
*Establish, monitor, and maintain a reporting and investigation process for incident, injury, near-hit, and property damage situations, to include flowing data/reports to appropriate leadership teams.
*Administer workers’ compensation program, examine and initiate claims, and control costs through effective management of medical cases.
*Conduct EHS audits and inspections on workplace facilities and equipment to identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace and ensure regulatory compliance.
*Play an active role in conducting investigations into employee complaints, inquiries, and suggestions on safety related issues, including supporting Safety Committee members in corrective action tracking.
*Maintain accurate and detailed environmental, health, safety, and compliance records and documentation per applicable regulatory bodies (OSHA/OHSA, LNI, Cal/OSHA, DEQ, DNR, EPA, etc.)
*Plan, develop, implement, and document safety training sessions for new hire orientation, safety committee meetings, and routine employee training.
*Identify, classify, record, inspect, and properly dispose of waste material, both hazardous and non-hazardous, in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, rules, and codes.
Required Skills and Abilities
*Ability to communicate in both the written and spoken language of English to a level that will allow the safe and effective performance of the job.
*Well-developed and demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local occupational safety, health, and transportation laws, regulations, rules, and codes (e.g. OSHA, Cal/OSHA, DEQ, EPA, RCRA, DNR, OHSA).
*Capacity to think critically, calculate, analyze, and track details/figures/data and make competent decisions based on those details/figures/data.
*Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with deadlines.
*Ability to effectively and positively handle stress in a fast-paced work environment.
*Ability to work effectively with data management systems, spreadsheets, word processing documents, and other applicable computer systems and software.
Education and Experience
*Knowledge of environmental, occupational health, and safety regulation, compliance, and program management normally acquired by the completion of *Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety or equivalent work experience.
*Well-developed and demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local occupational safety, health, and transportation laws, regulations, rules, and codes (e.g. OSHA, DEQ, EPA, RCRA).
*Certifications and credentials preferred (any): ASP, GSP, CSP, OSHA 30-hour General Industry, HAZWOPER 40, 511/501 OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer
Physical Requirements
*Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move around for extended periods of time.
*Capability to lift and carry objects of various weights up to 50 pounds occasionally
*Proficiency in using hands, fingers, and arms for tasks such as typing and writing.
*Sufficient visual acuity to read documents and recognize details at close and distant ranges.
*Ability to hear and understand verbal communication.
*Flexibility to bend, stoop, and reach low or high objects.
*Adaptability to work in varying environmental conditions and exposures such as temperature extremes, noise, dust, solvent, and fumes.

Travel Requirements
This position requires occasional overnight travel and occasional travel within the workday.
Driver Qualification
The ability to drive a company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle on behalf of the company is required. Inclusion in the company’s driver qualification program is required to drive a company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle.
Becoming a qualified driver includes:
*Agree to the company driving policies that apply to company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle as applicable.
*Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be a minimum of 21 years of age.
*Maintain an acceptable driving record, as evidenced by completion of a baseline motor vehicle record check and ongoing monitoring.
*When driving a personal vehicle on behalf of the company, must provide a copy of the declaration page from personal auto insurance that shows the policy dates and minimum coverage amounts ($300,000 bodily injury per accident/$100,000 property damage per accident or if driving less than 5 hours/200 miles a year $50,000 bodily injury per accident/$10,000 property damage per accident or the state minimum, whichever is more). This requirement is initially and then annually thereafter.
