Description
Job description: The Lydy Lab (www.aquatictox.siu.edu/) at Southern Illinois University is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to examine the fate and effects of current-use pesticides in aquatic systems. Responsibilities include developing methods for detection of target pesticides in water, sediment, invertebrates and fish and understanding the impacts pesticide exposure on rearing salmon. The successful candidate will ideally have a background in environmental chemistry or toxicology with hands-on experience developing analytical methods and quantification using GC-MS or LC-MS-MS. The aquatic toxicology facility at SIU houses a well-equipped analytical chemistry lab as well as a large modern aquatics facility. Carbondale is in a scenic portion of the state, and is near several state parks and national refuges, including the Shawnee National Forest.
Requirements
Required qualifications:
- Ph.D. in toxicology, environmental chemistry, or related field
- Experience developing methods for detection of pesticides in environmental media
- Demonstrated record analyzing data, writing results, and publishing scientific manuscripts
- Proficiency programming or coding in R
- Experience with pesticide analyses using GC-MS and LC-MS
- Strong organizational and data management skills
- Ability to work independently and on a team
- Ability to stay on schedule and meet deadlines
